Since February 2003, more than 400,000 people have died
and over two million people have been displaced from their
homes in the Darfur region of Sudan as a result of attacks
by the Sudanese government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed.
Because the conflict has resulted in the deaths of mainly non-Arab
black Africans, it has been termed genocide by the U.S. government.

An International Relief Organization - Responding to the Genocide in Darfur,
Sudan: Am Nabak Water Supply and Distribution System (Chad).
1.8 million people remain internally displaced within Darfur; over 220,000
are living in displaced persons camps in neighboring Chad.
The funds SYP raises will be donated to AJWS to provide a grant to
an international relief organization, working on the ground in Chad,
to construct a water supply and distribution system for a medical center
located in Am Nabak, a village near the Sudan-Chad border.
It is projected that the clinic will provide services for approximately
4,500 individuals per month, including 1,500 residents and 3,000 refugees.
