Emergency Relief
IMA Foundation: A foundation created to assist the State of Israel.
Funds raised will help the disadvantaged through direct financial assistance.
Programs include but are not limited to; the distribution of food coupons,
assistance to mentally ill and physically handicapped, medical treatments,
and additional emergency aid. The foundation strives to reduce the wide
gaps between the various sectors of the population, while simultaneously
striving for the levels of excellence which are especially important for
the future of Israel.
SYPs contribution provided 10 students from the Mechina Preparatory
Program at Tel Aviv University with $1,000 each scholarship for the Mechina
Year. The scholarships are titled: "The Society of Young Philanthropists
Mechina Scholarships at Tel Aviv University."
Some of the recipients include:
Liron who wishes to study in the faculty of life sciences was born
in 1882 and has 3 brothers. In 1993 her parents were divorced and she
was left with her mother. A few years later the mother became religious
and remarried and ever since Liron has a very distant relationship with
her mother. When she was 16 she had a disease which affected her leg so
she couldn't enlist in the army but she did National Service for one year.
She lives now with her grandmother who has cancer and their economic situation
is not good.
Amir who wishes to study psychotherapy has two brothers and his
parents were divorced when he was 3 years old. He doesnt have any
connections with his father ever since. The father doesn't support Amir's
family who live with the grandmother. Amir served in the army and helps
his mother who has a very low income, to provide for the family. He has
good academic achievements.
Martha who wishes to study psychology was born in Russia in 1984.
In 1994 after the death of her father from sever illness the family which
comprised her mother and two brothers made Aliya. Martha volunteered to
National Service and served for two years. The mother provides for the
family by working in a factory and the situation of the family is quite
difficult. She has good academic achievements.
Ana who is a student in the Mechina for new immigrants and wishes
to study life sciences was born in 1988 in Russia. She first came to Israel
with her parents and her sister in 1997. The difficulties caused them
leave for Canada in 2001.In 2004 they returned to Russia and in 2006 the
family returned to Israel. The father is working in a factory and the
mother is unemployed. In spite of their difficult economic situation the
parents make an utmost effort to help Ana and her sister who is also a
student in the Mechina to acquire academic education. Ana and her sister
work in sporadic jobs. She is an excellent student.
