SYP raised $4,000 for OneFamily
Fund, with the Philanthroshop event on Sunday, September 11, 2005.
OneFamily, Israel's central address providing personalized care and support,
provides direct financial, legal, and emotional assistance to victims of
terrorism in Israel.
With SYP's donation, OneFamily will provide $3,000 to cover surgery for
Ora Cohen.
In 2003, after a trip to the Kotel in Jerusalem, Ora, her husband and their
five children boarded a bus for their 20-minute trip home. As they turned
into the Shmuel Hanavi neighborhood, a terrorist aboard the bus blew himself
up, killing 23 people and injuring over 150 others. Ora's entire family
was wounded in the attack. Now, more than two years after the attack, Ora
must undergo surgery in order to repair her eardrums from the damage caused
by the bomb blast. She has not had the surgery until now because she has
been unable to afford it. Both National Insurance and her health fund are
unwilling to cover the surgery. If she doesn't undergo this operation now,
she may lose her hearing permanently.
The remaining $1,000 will purchase a new computer for Esther
Sa'ada's grandchildren, whom she now helps support after her husband,
Amos, was shot to death by a Palestinian terrorist. Many of Esther's grandchildren
are still in school and a new computer would help them in their studies
as well as provide leisure activity in their new and undeveloped town. For
